Time has passed indeed & my blog is now a year old! 🙂 I’ve published 74 posts so far, taken an AWOL from blogging due to laziness & got back on track with a clear mind that I don’t have to force myself to blog regularly. 😀 😛 Anyway Happy Anniversary To SeptemberWildRose! 😀
So today I feel like sharing a few ways that you can “go green” which are simple & easy.
Re-using plastic drinking bottles
This is obviously very obvious ( 😛 redundant, I know ). You can re-use the bottles for drinking purpose upto a certain number of times (before the plastic weakens & begins to leach). Then you can use these same bottles fill them up with water/sand & use them as weights for weight-lifting exercises. [Of course, if you’re filling them with water, I’d suggest you mark it so no one else mistakenly drinks from it..]. You can also google for different DIYs & ideas. Some people make brooms, cute animal-painted pencil/pens storage, glass-like flowers, etc.
Re-using shopping bags
Grocery stores give out a lot of plastic bags, sometimes you can help avoiding it & sometimes you cannot. So what do you do? Use them as trash liner bags or make PLARN out of them. 🙂
Emptying the maximum you can
Be it your shampoo bottle (which was what got me thinking about this) or your tooth paste or anything similar of which you may need a little but taking time or effort to empty it makes you wanna waste it. So why am I telling you to take the time & effort? Well RD was about to throw his shampoo into the bin, but I took it, placed it upside down & let it collect overnight into a soap tray. The amount I found the next morning was equivalent to about two hair washes! Just imagine every shampoo bottle you’ve thrown without emptying, over your entire life.. I’m guessing I could safely say at least 1 full shampoo bottle’s worth, now imagine all humans wasting that amount & think you can make a difference of 1 or maybe 2 bottles in your lifetime & if more people are made aware, it could make more of a difference 🙂 All it takes is keeping your bottle upturned or in the case of toothpaste, use your muscle power & squeeze or you could buy a tube squeezer. The lesser we waste, the more we slow down the pollution process. 🙂
Save those used drinking cups
Drinking cups served at home parties & the like can be collected & the good ones can be washed & reused to make sparkle (light) balls! These look so cool & make a neat decoration!
Re-using tins/cans
Wash & clean them, smoothen any sharp edges, paint or tape them with wrapping paper/lace & use them as storage cans. And if you have a green thumb, you can use them to grow small plants or herbs. Even use them to make chimes to scare animals straying into your farms.
Trim away
If you use old clothes as rags, trim away stuff like zips & buttons & save them. The buttons are usually in good condition & since they are plastic, by saving them you are doing a green thing! I keep all buttons in a small container so whenever I need a button I don’t need to go out & buy, but check if I have something in my collection that will do. 🙂 I save the zips as well, but haven’t had to use them so far. And if you don’t need them you can find a friend or neighbour or someone who can use it. 🙂
Snip that ring wide
If you buy beer cans, you probably get those plastic ring holders to keep them in place. A simple less-than-a-minute snipping the holes open wide can prevent this.
Stuff that litter in your bag/ pocket
I read this on a friend’s fb post & realized I’m not the only one who does it & also that more people should do this. Whenever I’m out, I don’t throw my chewing gum/ wrapping paper out, (unless I can find a bin closeby) but I stuff it in a tissue & into my bag’s side pocket & then throw it in the trash at home. Same way when going for a picnic always carry extra bags to collect trash & dispose them at a proper place rather than littering.
Save those tea bag dividers
Dividers used in tea bag boxes can be saved & used to write your shopping lists on. I also cut up some boxes into strips & use them. This is making use of waste. 🙂
Save containers
Save those icecream containers & use them to store food items. Those coffee glass bottles to keep your spices & herbs. Those chocolate plastic boxes(Ferrero Rocher anyone? 🙂 ) to keep your make up brushes, eye/lip liners, etc.
Re-use tyres
You can use them as a base for a plant or to contain plants at a spot. You can also use them in DIY swings or stools/seats.
Shoe Boxes
Save those as well to manage the clutter of small boxes, keep bottles(scent/lotion) together rather than scattering on your dressing table, etc. And best of all these are easy to stack one on top of another, so not much clutter there either!
Ok so that’s all I got for today. I’ll leave you with one of my old photograph titled “Go Green”, although it’s not related to actually going green. 😛
I hope some of you are inspired to take up a few new things to go green with or even share with everyone to help make our surroundings & environment a better place.
PS : If you’re a blogger & have different new ideas, make a post like this & share it. If you’re a facebooker, share on facebook. And similarly just share ideas on other forums/ sites how to be more greener. 🙂
Hope you have an awesome & green-ful day!
Oh & another heads-up, for those of you in Kuwait, there’s another evening beach clean-up tomorrow (Friday, 21st). Get in touch with K’s Path for more details & direction.
